Here are a few notable events in the history of Zenith:- 1865 Georges Favre-Jacot founded the company in Le Locle, Switzerland.- 1900: Gold Medal winner at the Paris Universal Exhibition.- 1909: Louis Blériot, the first person to fly over the English Channel wore a Zenith pilot's watch.- 1911: The Company officially changed its name to Zenith. Also Mahatma Gandhi was gifted a sterling silver Zenith pocket watch from his friend the Prime minister of India, Jawaharla Nehru (1947-1964). This pocket watch, works and keeps great time, we always advised for any antique watch to have them overhauled for good measure. The inside case has the hallmarks of the makers work as well as the metal content which is 800 silver. The silver hallmark is a wood grouse inside a diamond shaped frame until the 1930's then the outside frame was changed but not the wood grouse. So this pocket watch is from 1930 or before. There are 15 jewels.The acrylic crystal is in good condition and measures about 42mm in diameter. There are a couple of mall dings on each side of the frame (see red circles). The translation from the French terms found with all the hallmarks are:ANCRE: escapement lever, which is shaped like a anchor thus its French name: ancre.LEVEES VISIBLES: escapement lever with visible pallets.DOUBLE PLATEAU: double roller.BALANCIER COMPENSE: compensation balance to compensate for temperature changes.SPIRAL BREGUET: balance spring with a Breguet overcool. Design to expand and contract evenly for a smooth change swings forward and backward. Abraham-Louis Breguet invented the Breguet overcoil in 1795.
