Description: July 4, 1975. 22.3" x 1.2". Yippie 6th Annual 4th of July Smoke-In Poster, at the Ellipse in Washington D.C. A banner hangs above illustrations of several figures from early American history, including Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington, all smoking marijuana. A very unique, scarce poster. NEAR FINE; modest wear. Abbie Hoffman (1936-1989), Jerry Rubin (1938-1994) and Paul Krassner (born 1932) co-founded the Yippies (Youth International Party) in 1967 to defend civil liberties and alternative values ad lifestyls. They modelled their group loosely on the aims of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which promoted equal rights and peace. Yippie activism involved promoting counter-culture movements, including drug use.
