Several manufacturers made bayonets during WWII such as Hikari Seiki Seisakusho, Matsushita Kinzoku, Riken Kozai, Toyokawa Kaigun kosho and Toyoda Jido Shokki Seisakusho (Toyoda Automatic Loom Works). Early bayonets had the hooked quillion, fullered blade, contoured grips with escutcheons screws and birds head pommel. Later bayonets removed the quillion, fuller and had a straight wood grip as they tried to save time to crank out the bayonets. This one is an early war bayonet. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with average spring tension. The catch and mortise have oxidation. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They both have light erosion and oxidation. The screw escutcheons securely fasten the grips. They have oxidized and have tool marks in the slots. The wood grip panels have compressions, draglines and the top of the right panel looks like it was shaved a little bit. The wood has darkened with age. The spine, sides and fullers have light erosion and oxidation. There are no nicks or dings and it appears to have its original factory edge. There are some scrapes, but we think it is from the scabbard. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The finish is in the white, but it has started to turn a darker patina color. The right ricasso is marked with the Kokura Rikugun Zoheisho (Kokura Army Ministry Armory 1935-1945) logo . The back of the pommel is marked with a Kanji character and the serial number "37076". The scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog band is securely fastened to the body and also has a layer of oxidation on it. It has a slight wiggle but not loose by any means. The body has impact marks, erosion, scratches and scrapes. The finish is in the white. There are no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Japanese rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
