The blade has no nicks, chips, corrosion or pitting. There’s a ½” oval ding in the stacked leather handle on the left side near the front; check the last picture. The flaming bomb marked pommel is tight; however, the guard has a very slight fore/aft wiggle. The original, excellent condition, U.S. M8 scabbard has no cracks or chips and the snap snaps securely. The M3 fighting knife was an American military combat knife first issued in March 1943. The M3 was originally designated for issue to soldiers, not otherwise equipped with a bayonet. This “blade marked” M3 was an early production knife made by the Imperial Knife Company in 1943. The U.S. M8 B.M.CO. scabbard reinforces this, as its production die number found under the top plate of the throat is B -/1 N. This low number and early khaki colored belt loop suggest it is a first production M8 scabbard.
