(The scabbard is falling apart). It also fits the Mauser M1943 short rifle. The Artilleria Fabrica Nacional, Toledo company made these. The Spanish army was one of the countries who had checkered wood grips on their bayonets. This bayonet was originally intended for M1895 short rifles but when Spain designed and went with the M1916 rifles they were redesigned to fit the new pattern rifles. Overall, this bayonet is in Poor - Fair condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have impact marks, oxidation and scrapes, most notable oxidation on the right hand side. The screw escutcheons securely fasten the wood grip panels. They have light tool marks with strong slots, plus they have oxidized. The checkered grips have compressions and draglines, plus a lot of the checkering has worn down. They have darkened with age. The spine, fullers and sides have a lot of oxidation. The blade has a very light bend, almost not worth mentioning. There are no nicks or dings and appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a dull point. The finish was in the white but not much of the original finish remains. The left ricasso's markings have been scrubbed and nothing is visible. The right ricasso is marked with the serial number that is hard to read, but appears to be "89860". The scabbard is in Poor - Poor Plus condition, considering its age and history. The frog stud is securely attached to the locket. Both the locket and chape have oxidation and scrapes. The locket is attached to the leather body but it has a light wiggle. The chape has torn off. It is still included, but not attached to the body. The leather is thin and brittle, plus the stitching has been repaired at some point. There are cracks in the leather and most of the finish has started to wear off. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Spanish rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
