Description: WWI German Saxony Friedrich August Medal in Bronze FRIEDRICH AUGUST MEDAILLE - WITH ERROR DOUBLE EDGE SIZE: 28 mm The Medal of Frederick Augustus was a military decoration awarded within the Kingdom of Saxony.The medal was granted both in peace and in war by King Frederick Augustus III and was created on April 23, 1905 to recognize soldiers who had distinguished themselves for knowledge and service, with the restriction that it could only be granted up to the rank of sergeant. The highest ranks of the army were awarded the Military Order of St. Henry. The medal was made of bronze, but sometimes it was also made of silver.The medal was granted regularly from 1908 until 1918 in a total of about 24,000 pieces. The design of the decoration was made by the famous Max Barduleck (1846-1923). The medal consisted of a bronze or silver round with the initials of Frederick Augustus III ("F A") crowned and enclosed in a laurel wreath on the obverse; the back, on the other hand, bore the inscription "Friedrich August Medaille" enclosed in a flowered crown.
