After a period of intense preparation, planning and staff work he landed with the battalion in Normandy in July 1944. Since that date he has been in every action in which the battalion has been involved. In the heavy fighting around Caumont, in the close combat in the mud and canals around Meijel, in the swift advances from the Rhine to the Elbe with the 6th Airborne Division, his efficiency and devotion to duty remained beyond all praise. Furthermore, owing to his untiring energy he ensured that Bn HQ functioned with the maximum efficiency even under the most difficult conditions. Whenever subjected to enemy fire, he remained completely imperturbable, carrying out his duties with an absolute disregard for personnel safety. His work through the entire campaign has at all times been of the highest class, he has been absolutely untiring, however late the hour, he is always cheerful, quiet, efficient and a great example to all ranks. The greatcoat is in overall good original condition. The only defect being there are some minor moth holes and some loose stitching near the armpit liner seam (see pictures). These do not detract from the greatcoats overall apperance and it still displays well. Made from all natural fibres, features leather buttons, guards rank pips denoting the rank of captain to the epaulettes and a tailor label for to the interior to a previous owner prior P.R. Colville (see pictures). The liner features the name P.R. Colville. The approximate measurements of the greatcoat are: Chest - 42 inches Top of collar to bottom hem - 46 inches Shoulder to cuff - 26 inches Please look at my other items for more militaria and collectables
