Description: WW1 British War Medal to Esson, 24th Battn CEF, later Imprisoned in New York Named to : 141188 PTE. W.W. ESSON. 24-CAN. INF. William Esson was born on 2nd June 1915 at Aberdeen, Scotland and was a Farmer by occupation when he attested on 5th August 1915 in the 76th Battalion at Niagara, Ontario. He served in the 39th, 22nd, 24th Battalions and was attached to 21st Army Troops before being wounded with GSW in the buttocks and thigh and was subsequently discharged. He re-enlisted at Toronto on 14 May 1918 in the Railway Construction Depot but was again discharged on 29 July 1918 as unfit. He subsequently appears to of moved to Auburn, New York, USA where he had a lot of trouble with the law being imprisoned for assisting in an attempted robbery etc and served over 9 years and was eventually deported. - Dark toned, VF - Please see pictures.
