The book begins with his 43rd out of 50 required missions. The bombardier is shot down over Poland in Sept 13, 1944. The diary covers his POW time in Stalag Luft I Barth Germany. After his B-24 was shot down over Poland in September, 1944, U.S. Army Air Corps bombardier 2nd Lieutenant Frank Pratt spent the next eight months as a POW at Stalag Luft I, outside of Barth, Germany. He recorded his experiences in diaries made from cigarette packets. His writings tell the story of day-to-day life as a prisoner in the camp in the closing months of World War II.
