Description: This songbird was carved by long time wood carver D.J. "Peanut" Alleman, Jr. (1942-2018). It appears to be a warbler similar to the Magnolia Warbler found mostly in the northernmost U.S. and parts of Eastern Canada. It was carved in 2006 for a demonstration he did at Nicholls State University In Thibodaux, Louisiana. Peanut carved birds, fish, ducks and just about anything that brought him inspiration. He was also a boat builder and built many of them with his life long friend and boat building legend Raymond Sedotal. Peanut taught carving classes in several locations in and around the Atchafalaya Basin. He knew the massive swamp very well and routinely found wood there for his carving pursuits. A longtime resident of Pierre Part and good friend to most of the carvers within the geographic area. He judged at many carving competitions in Mississippi and Louisiana and was deeply loved and respected for his gregarious nature.
