Boilly Date of Printing: 1824 Printing Technique: black and white stone lithograph with original watercolor hand-tinting Artist: Louis-Leopold Boilly (1761-1845), French painter of portraits and scenes of French middle-class social life Details: ORIGINAL pair of 1824 French comic illustrations of wine lovers. “L’Automne” (Autumn) celebrating the grape harvest, and “La Felicite Parfaite” (Perfect Bliss) depicting a couple who have enjoyed their wine a little too well. Titles are printed below the image. Boilly’s printed signature is at lower left just below the image on “L’Automne” and lower right on “La Felicite Parfaite”. The printer information (G. Lith de Delpech) is printed just below the image on the opposite side of the printed signature on both pieces. Framed in half inch wide gilded wood frames, most likely from the mid-20th century. Prints have been rebacked with 100% acid-free cotton rag matboard. Size: with frame each print measures 10 3/8” wide by 13 3/8” high. The visible portion of the print measures 9 ½” wide by 12 ½” high. Condition: Condition is VERY GOOD. There is even age toning to the paper typical of 200-year old prints.
