Description: Check out my other garden delights! Apiarists, homesteaders, and gardeners will definitely find something of interest! Taxonomic Information: Genus: Hedychium Species: coronarium Synonyms: Hedychium prophetae, Hedychium maximum, Hedychium lingulatum, Hedychium gandasulium, Hedychium chrysoleucum, Gandasulium lingulatum, Amomum filiforme Common Names: White Ginger, White Ginger Lily, White Garland-Lily, Butterfly Lily, Indian Garland Flower, Fragrant Garland Flower Description: See those pictures! Those are my pictures! The blossoms are nothing short of stunning! The blossoms are wonderfully fragrant too! My favorite description calls the aroma "an intense, luxurious fragrance." Perfumes are made from the oil in the blossoms. The foliage has a great texture that makes it a great plant for accent plantings. White ginger flowers summer through the fall. In most of North America, it is grown as a die-back plant. It dies to the ground in the winter, but it will come raging back in the spring. If you live in a place where winters cause deep permafrost, you can simply lift the tubers in the winter. White ginger does not have disease or pest problems. It is of no surprise that white ginger won the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. The leaves are great for making a savory tea. The roots can be used like common ginger, but they are not as potent. The flowers are so impressive that you will not be able to resist adding them to a bouquet! The blossoms are common flowers found in leis. The stems themselves make fantastic bouquet accents and centerpieces. If you can, to better enjoy the fragrant blossoms, plant the white ginger next to a walkway, door, patio, or window. What is Included: Other sellers, as you probably have noticed, are offering tiny, tiny rhizomes. They have pictures of them next to coins for size comparisons! I only offer large rhizomes. I can guarantee healthy blooming specimens! 1/4+ lb (one quarter of a pound or larger) rhizome that is shipped via USPS First-Class Package Planting Instructions: After the last frost, plant the ginger in the ground. I recommend that you bury it no deeper than 4 inches. They like to be close to the surface. Plants do best in shade to part sun. Full sun (in hot climates) will cause them to yellow. The gingers do like for their feet to be in the shade, especially if they are in a hot, sunny location (if you are in hot areas of the sun belt). They perform best if they are not exposed to long hours of hot, afternoon sun in addition to extra radiation (sunlight bouncing off of walls/pavement/etc.). Detailed planting instructions will be sent when you order.
