Description: Vtg 70s MCM Original Oil Painting Portrait Girl Puppy Dog Big Eyes Signed Vel Miller. Pre-owned good vintage condition a few flaws to frame and liner only. Beautiful portrait of a small girl with honey colored hair holding a cute puppy in green foliage with blue sky peeking through. Her big blue eyes match her attire. She looks calm and content holding her little dog in her arms. The frame is amazing and heavy. It wood painted gold with raised design on the borders of the outside and the inside. The painting itself is surrounded by a soft cream-colored velvet liner. The verso has a name and date written as "DAMAR 4-2-72" and if you look even more closely "Leo" (puppy?) "Mommy" "18x24 Miller" in Pencil and "#67." Additionally, there is an old sticker from Trade Winds out of Santa Barbara, CA. and what was possibly the price in 1972 as $485! Miller is an accomplished and respected California based artist that has been commissioned to create many noteworthy art pieces over the years. Her work has been displayed in museums and private art collections alike. GenX approved! A little about the artst: Vel miller, American 1936. Vel Miller is an American Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1936. Known for her sculptures and portrait paintings, and is a Who's Who in American Women, Vel Miller's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices in various ranges depending on the size and medium of the artwork. In Mutual Arts artist press archive, Vel Miller is featured in 8th Annual SLOPOKE Fine Art of the West Exhibition & Sale, a piece from Fine Art Connoisseur in September 2018. Vel attended the Art League of Los Angeles, studying under Hal Reed and Max Turner, and she later taught there. An important mentor, Joe DeYong, a protege of Charlie Russell, encouraged and inspired her with stories and love of the Old West. She taught six oil classes a week for almost ten years until the demand for her art became so great she stopped teaching to devote her time to her work.
