Description: Released while Virgil was Artistic Director of LV from 2018-2021, followed by the Virgil Abloh x IKEA Markerad Collection. Rumored as long ago as 2017, eventually dropped in early 2019 as part of IKEA's fifth IKEA Art Event, in which the company taps multidisciplinary artists to commission furniture pieces for them. Virgil Abloh was commissioned to design one of eight rugs for the event. This rug features Persian wool with the words KEEP OFF between Virgil's signature quotation marks and was designed to depict the ironic nature of an overbearing parent who protects their furniture. He is quoted on the piece stating "I wanted an ironic take on the traditional attitude to furnishing where the living room is just a showroom, not somewhere you sit". The rug was released as an In-Store exclusive on May 10th 2019. Single owner, purchased directly at IKEA, was finally displayed in a smoke-free humidity controlled environment for a short time before being stored back in its original dust cover in memoriam after Virgil’s passing.
