Description: This is a Universal Potteries jug/pitcher, about 6.5 inches high and 9 inches long. This pattern "Bitter Sweet Berries" was made from 1942 to 1949. In the vintage advertisement (see photo) the company calls this an ice-lip jug, designed to keep the ice from falling into your glass. The design painted on it is berries and leaves, in a bright orange-red. Perfect for Thanksgiving and the Holidays. This is a heavy, sturdy piece of pottery. No chips or cracks, but heavy crazing inside, and some noted on the exterior too. See photos! Maker's Mark on bottom is really cool, says patent pending and has the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters (NBOP) seal inside the writing. The NBOP was a union formed by pottery makers at their first convention in 1890. They later became the International Brotherhood of Operative Potters in 1951. (Gives one an idea of the jug's age.) This also says "ovenproof" though I'm not sure why you'd want to put a water jug in the oven! I have other collectibles listed and will combine shipping if asked. Thanks for looking!
