Description: Vintage SR Professional 24" model 14 speed racing/road bike. The Professional was SR Bicycles' top model. It used Tange Champion #2 butted tubing for the frame and fork. Shimano 600/Ultegra tri color components. The wheels shown are 700c clinchers but are used here just to stage the bike for photos. The bike will come with another set of 700c clincher wheels with good condition tires and tubes. The fork was fully chromed but was usually painted the same color as the frame (in this case metallic red). Only I decided to expose the right fork blade chrome (outer half only) since significant paint chipping occurred there where the underlying chrome had become exposed. Now I will state since the demand is low on SR bikes because they are not well known outside of the SoCal area, I am not figuring on doing any more stripping of the rest of the paint on the fork since the final price I get for this fine bike will be so much lower than its worth. Hells' bells, the Shimano 600/Ultegra tri-color group would probably fetch more on Ebay than the entire bike will !! Frame dimensions: Seat tube (c-c) 59.5 cm Seat tube (c-t) 61.0 cm or 24" Top tube (c-c) 57 cm Stand-over height 33.25" By the way, SR Bicycles had no affiliation with the Sakae Ringyo Japanese component company who also used "SR" to describe their products. However, SR Bicycles frequently used Sakae Ringyo (SR) stems, handlebars and seat posts for their own bikes. Maybe SR chose that name for their company hoping that the American public would assume that Sakae Ringyo indeed made their bikes. We'll probably never know exactly what SR stood for. History Lore about SR Bicycle: SR Bicycles was a USA company based in the San Diego area in the late 1970s that ceased operations by the mid to late 1980s. They had all their bikes made entirely in Japan - meaning the frames were brazed, painted and assembled there and then shipped to the San Diego area. SR Bicycles contracted with Araya, Bridgestone, Panasonic and Miyata to produce their frames. Tange Champion #2 butted chrome-moly lightweight steel tubing was used almost exclusively on all their top models. Tange Champion #2 is to Japan what Columbus SL tubing is to Italy or what Reynolds 531 is to England. SR used only the best Japanese components on their various models: SunTour Superbe, SunTour Cyclone, Shimano Dura Ace and Shimano 600. I acquired just the frames so I used my own choice of components - in this case Shimano/Ultegra.
