Description: 5x7". Newport items are from the Gilded Age collection of Paul Wm. Holbrook of Newport, RI, who had an avid interest in the early homes of Newport. We'll be listing many old photos of Newport mansions, and many papers and receipts of the 19th century Edward King family, whose fortunes were made in the China Trade and Newport real estate. The receipts are principally from the estate of Leroy King (1857-1895), one of Edward's sons, who built the Stanford White designed house "Berkeley" in 1885, at the corner of Bellevue and Berkeley Avenues in Newport. Many receipts are for items bought during the construction of the house and in the ten years following, from daily staples to single carpets and candelabras. There are also receipts from European hotels and purchases made in London and Paris during trips there in 1890 and 1895. Leroy died early, at age 38, in New York City. Most receipts are from Newport, but there are many from NYC as well. Leroy was a lawyer. His son Leroy Jr. was also a lawyer, and his son Frederick an architect, and his daughter Ethel an art collector. Happy to answer questions. See photos for condition! If this is an auction listing there is no "Buy it Now" price--please don't ask. We don't end auctions early. If this is a "Buy It Now" listing we do not participate in the "Make An Offer" program--no haggling. Prices are our best price. Just takes too much time with so many listings. Glad to combine shipping on multiple items: Please message me BEFORE you pay for multiple items so I can reduce your shipping cost. The best method is to put multiple items in your cart and then click on the "Ask for a Combined Invoice" button. Good feedback automatically given reciprocally--when you provide feedback we automatically provide it to you. And finally, we don't do "Partial Refunds". You must return the item if you're unhappy with the purchase.
