Description: Vintage Parker 51 14kt Gold (?) Nib - Parts - No Tipping This is a nib out of a Parker 51 vacumatic. It is being sold for parts because it has no tipping. In addition, this nib is a little strange as it is completely unmarked. First-year Parker 51 nibs were not marked but this came out of a pen from the mid 1940's. It may be a first year nib that was swapped in, or Parker had unused stock that they used for later pens. As it is unmarked I am not 100% sure that it is gold and I have no way to test it. That being said, Parker did not make any gold plated nibs for the Parker 51, and Vacumatics were only made with gold nibs. I applied a bit of mild metal polish and no "plating" came off. It also looks very much like solid 14kt gold to me, please see the pictures. Please see condition notes: No tipping - the tipping broke off when I disassembled the pen. The nib had a ton of gunk all over it and I suspect it was inked with an ink that did not play well with the metal and weakened the tipping. Nib was covered in some dried up ink gunk, I have cleaned off a decent amount but there is still some left, see pictures.Shoulders of the nib looks like they might be a tiny bit indented or bent, but this might just be indentations from the collector. Structurally it looks ok other than the tipping. As noted above, I cannot guarantee this is 14kt gold but it looks very much like it to me. This is broken and being sold as-is for parts. Maybe someone can retip this or regrind it into a stub. Please see pictures for additional detail, I tried to capture as many close up shots as possible. Please send me a message if you need any additional info or pictures.
