Description: Charming vintage pitcher made in England by Johnson Brothers of Staffordshire. My understanding is that it’s called transferware, which means a pattern would be made separately and applied to the semi porcelain (to compete with completely hand painted pieces of an earlier era) and that artists would then color things in. That explains to me why it’s the same on both sides and also there is a small seam in the pattern by the handle. The pattern shows Tudor style houses in a little village with thatched roofs. I love the little touches like the well pump and the rock with the travel measure stone marker on it (8 miles? Before they went metric!) and a couple of townsfolk. I believe it’s probably from the 50s, not the 1970s The pitcher is 24oz, smaller than the 32oz one. It measures 6” to the tallest feature and 6-1/4” at the widest (spout to handle) point. It’s in excellent shape no scratches or chips, it might have some crazing from its age but I can’t see it. This would be a great addition to a collection. Or a start of one :) Thanks for reading! K37
