Homer Laughlin a renown ceramist here in America produced many patterns of art pottery in many bright brilliant colors and his most infamous achievement was his creation of Fiestaware a decades long endeavor where he was able to create hundreds of pieces of his new dinnerware that most American housewives could afford making their dining, brunch, and buffet tables full of bright colored dinnerware to impress their families and social guests at dinner parties. And during the 1950's after WWII Americans began one again to throw dinner parties at home and during this same period sprang the great American potluck where dinner guests brought a dish to pass and oftentimes their dish to pass was contained in a Fiestaware serving dish as well. During the 1950's Laughlin expanded their line of dinnerware to include what he called Harlequinware a new concept and a spin off of Fiestaware. He used some of the attributes of his Fiestaware like a ringed pattern on his around the lid and bowl also found on Harlequin, a more futuristic sugar bowl design with a conical shape and an elbow knob on top of the lid and elbow handles and it was even less expensive than his Fiestaware was driving the American housewife in a frenzy to purchase it fromoutlet around the country. Today, Harlequin ware is rare and hard to come by as it was only produce in a short window of time from 1950 to 1959 and after six decades most of it was time worn and discarded for more expensive lines of dinnerware as times changed and wages did too. The sugar bowl measures, with the lid on,4 1/4" tall X 4 1/4" in diameter around the opening at the top X 2" in diameter across the bottom and the sugar bowl is in 'mint' condition and dates 1950's. The sugar bowl and its matching lid is unmarked as all of Homer Laughlin's Harlequinware is. Good luck! Any questions? Email me right away!
