Ironically, though, the folk story of the gingerbread man is rather tragic and un-Christmas like. In the story, a gingerbread man hops from the oven when he is done and manages to out-run an old woman, a horse, a chicken, and several others, all of whom have the intent of eating him. Finally he meets a fox, who feigns disinterest in his culinary attractiveness. The gingerbread man relaxes for a moment and the fox is able to capture him and swallow him whole.
