Vintage EXCELLENT New 1940s Manhattan (Stetson) Whippet Beaver 15 Sz 7 & Box?

Description: Excellent 1940s, Vintage Manhattan (Contracted to Stetson or Dobbs, as per a collector who wrote to us) WHIPPET Fedora, size 7. This great fedora is a REAL LOOKER! NONE OF THOSE FIRST PICTURES REFLECTS THE ACTUAL COLOR OF THIS HAT! Darn it! It’s medium gray! The later pictures are much much better! NOTE: this was found in that Disney Hat Box. Since the box does NOT match the hat we are adding the hat box as an option to purchase along with the hat. The hat box will add to shipping and cost $65 in addition to the fedora. You must write to us first if you want the hat box so we can adjust the price.So Manhattan did NOT manufacture their own hats! But contracted this out to large manufacturing company. This was most likely manufactured in the early to mid 1940s. The store it was sold at BENN’s, as you can imagine as my grandson tried to find anything on this old store all he was able to find is that newer store called BENN’S, so frustrating!COLOR: None of the picture are coming out to a perfect match to the actual color! The pictures 8 & 9 are the best representation of the actual color of this fedora! This is a medium gray. We don’t know why we can’t get the color to come out consistently? This fedora we think is just so beautiful that we are hard pressed to say it was NEVER a worn and If it was worn it would have been sparingly worn only a couple of times and put away.Dad has added one of his coat trolley strings from his old dead stock. These are very elastic and can be left as is or any decent tailor can sew it onto the hat.This hat is near PERFECT! NO stains! Liner is very very clean too. NO stains found anywhere! Including the grosgrain ribbon or bound brim edge! We saw nothing at all wrong with the hat inside the home and when we were taking pictures outside my grandson did a final inspection. He did find a small shallow moth chew under the brim, it’s never seen but it’s there. We added a picture number 11.You can easily tell this is from the 1940s! There is NO plastic cover on the head liner. We took out dad’s collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver hats: 3X, 10X, 15X, 20X and TwentyFive. The best match is the Beaver 15. It’s just very very soft and pliable.This fedora was found with that original shape and dad did nothing but clean it with a horsehair brush! It could easily be steamed into any shape and earth “hand-bashed” into any shape you wanted but dad decided to leave the hat as originally found. A simple center dent would allow you to hand bash this fedora into any style, but why when it’s already so perfect?That wide 2.5 inch brim is just perfect for it! With that finely finished bound edge and that matching 1.5 inch grosgrain ribbon. This hat has EVERYTHING you look for in a great hat. It’s perfectly shaped! It’s a real looker! NOTE: UPDATED! we just found a service tag under the leather sweatband. At some point this hat was sent to be cleaned and refurbished. There was a service ticket under the leather sweatband.so maybe the liner and hat were cleaned and we can see that the liner was re-attached. It’s all very well secured to the hat and we did remove 4 loose threads from the old stitching that was loose. It’s all perfect but we thought you should know.We did find an under-tag that states 6-7/8 but we know back then there was NO hat sizing standardization!
