Vintage Excellent 1950 KNOX Whippet Beaver Brown Fedora 7++ 7-1/8 Stetson

Description: Here is a really beautiful excellent 1950s Beaver Ten, DOBBS - Brown - Whippet Clone fedora with that wide brim and wide bound brim edge. The size is a 7++ to 7-1/8. See pictures. It’s a fraction under a perfect 7-1/8. Because of that DOBBS Liner Logo and that very thin plastic liner cover it’s easily dated to the early 1950s. Both dad and a collector who has a hat relationship with dad both agreed to the dating of this great hat. NOTE: that hat box it was found in was in a 1950s DOBBS hat box but the oval box has no hat holding insert sets so Dad has agreed to change that Dobbs box for an original late 1950s early 1960s DOBBS hat box that is still in great condition with its original hat holding insert set. Very minor paper wear and is well worthy of displaying, storing the hat inside and shipping. You will need to write to us to include the hat box and of course shipping will cost more - $28.20. This box is also an option with another Dobbs fedora so whoever gets it first will be in luck!NOTE shipping outside the continental USA is without the hat box, it’s just expensive to ship we discovered but if you do want the hat box also you must write to us before buying the hat so we can edit the shipping dimensions and weight. NOTE: this was just edited to now include a coat trolley string as an option, see end pictures. Dad has added a coat trolley string to the hat. See picture. This appears to have been worn and stored away afterwards in that Dobbs hat box. So it is used but still in great condition! This is a REAL LOOKER! With that beautiful matching brown grosgrain ribbon, wide bound brim, and coat trolley string (dad added the coat trolley string, read below). This is NOT sewn onto the hat but could be by any decent tailor or the end can be trimmed off and used just as an adornment. It’s pretty easily done. This will add another $12, rather than the $20 that they sell for individually. You must write to add this to the great fedora hat.Dad has a few different color newer 1960s Coat Trolley strings that are listed here on eBay. They make great additions to any hat for that extra bit of styling. Write to us if you’d like to buy one. This one is only $12 but Dad still has a few more that are listed. This was DOBBS higher end styled fedora to compete with the Stetson Whippet fedora. This has nearly all the exact same dimensions! Slightly wider brim. The color is brown and the picture of the whole underside are the best representation of the actual color. We believe Stetson would have called this Chocolate Brown. We took out dad’s collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver hats: 3X, 7X Clear Beaver, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive. This best matched up with the Beaver Fifteen (Dad always stays very conservative with rating the beaver) but dad says to be VERY conservative and state it’s a Beaver Ten. It’s more of a medium weight material beaver and very soft and pliable! The current shape was steamed into the hat. It can be steamed with just a center dent and then “hand bashed”. You’ll need to write and ask dad to reshape it though. Pictures say much more about this great fedora! We took all angles and this is also part of the description. Ok now the particularsWe found no size tag and as always we actually measure each hat 3 times to verify its true size. Most likely stated size”7”. But this measures to a 7+++ and so close to a perfect 7-1/8.This measure to 22-1/4 inches (22-2/8 inches), so it’s about an 1/8 of an inch smaller than a perfect 7-1/8. Any decent hat stretcher will work to stretch this to a perfect 7-1/8. Many of our buyers have written to us telling us that the Amazon $15 hat stretcher gives perfect results. A perfect size 7 is 22 inches and a perfect size 7-1/8 is 22-3/8 inches, see picture at the end. These old vintage hat were manufactured at a time when there was NO hat size standardization. That was started in the 1970s and agreed upon to use the Tilley Hat Sizing Chart. Mostly still in use today.
