Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only a new, full-size copy of a PLAN for Paul Del Gatto's 48" span rudder-only RC to build your own 1/2A AERONCA CHAMPION RC. This is a sturdy, stable-flying, early-days-of-RC, single channel 48", 1/2A powered AERONCA CHAMPION. Of all the older model designs to experience the fun of scratch building a model that cannot fail to fly and fly well, this would be your best bet. All of the necessary parts patterns are on this PLAN. It would not be hard to make this a 2-channel model by adding a narrow elevator to the stabilizer. Narrow because experience shows that in the early days of RC scale-size elevators were far more than what was needed on a model of this type. The wing has ample dihedral so that, when coming out of a turn, the model will rock itself into level flight. A large elevator would not be needed to pick up the nose just a bit, in fact it would make the model gallop up and down due to excess elevator. As a BONUS I include a nice article on flying and stunting your rudder-only plane. If you have not built and flown a rudder-only model as many other old timers have just remember to keep your model upwind when flying it so it won't drift too far downwind in the glide after your engine quits. A Cox Medallion .049 is shown. Any similar engine will do.
