Vintage 1942 Red Wing Rumrill Pottery #251 Art Deco Ball Pitcher

Description: Vintage 1942 Red Wing Dinnerware Pottery #251 - Gypsy Trail Hostess Ware - Art Deco Ball Pitcher - Cream ColorMade by Red Wing Pottery of Red Wing, Minnesota. Likely made in 1942 based on the style of impressed mark on the bottom. The mark reads as follows: "#251 RED-WING POTTERY (with the long leg of the R that underlines the entire name) U.S.A." This mark was reportedly used from about 1939 to 1942.The #251 pitcher was part of the Gypsy Trail Hostess Ware line started in 1935. The #251 ball pitcher was introduced in 1942 (initially without the vertical support on the handle). The original handle proved to be prone to breakage and was soon redesigned with the vertical support piece near the opening. This pitcher has a distinctive art deco design with a long looping handle that starts at the back of the pitcher and goes over the top and ends at the spout, and rings on the bottom half of the pitcher. This pitcher was discontinued along with most of the remaining Gypsy Trail line around the end of World War II. The #251 pitcher is uncommon and hard to find. The pitcher stands approximately 7 3/4" in height X 10" from the spout to the rear of handle. It is in very good condition. There are some areas of crazing (most of it is not crazed). There are two small chips in the glazing on the bottom of the spout. There is a hairline crack in the glazing at the bottom of the vertical support for the handle. This crack does not appear to go all the way through, the handle is tight and secure.
