VINTAGE 1930s MRS DALTONS MAYONNAISE CO. JAR FORT WORTH TEXAS BEST MAID PICKLES

Description: Offered here is a vintage glass jar with a tin screw-on lid. The jar has a paper label which reads (in part): "BEST MAID...SALAD DRESSING...1 PINT...Packed By MRS. DALTON'S MAYONNAISE CO., FORT WORTH, TEX." A little history: Mildred (pictured on the label) and Jessie Dalton began selling Mayonnaise in their one room grocery store in 1924. It was quite a hit and soon it was being sold at regional stores in and around Fort Worth, Texas. Eventuality, they began selling other condiments, including "BEST MAID" pickles, for which they are probably best known. (It is a family business even today.) Since 1940, their advertising mascot has been a cartoon character illustration of the couple's daughter, Margie. This would seem to have been made between 1924 and 1939 - BEFORE they started using Margie's likeness on the labels. The jar measures 5 inches tall and is 2 & 3/4 inches wide at the lid. The condition is VERY GOOD to FINE. NO chips or cracks. The paper label is still very nice, with only minor wear. There is a small spot of rust on the edge of the metal lid.
