This type is OLD, characters may have nicks, scratches, dents, breaks, oxidation, corrosion, and layered ink, etc. Again, to avoid any issues, do not bid if this is not fully understood.SET #1 of 2: There are roughly 304 lowercase letters/symbols/quads in this set (in photos, please see letter chart for reference and example sheet of the type), including 10 extra quads (7 – 2EM, 1 – EM, 2 – 4EM). These are the only two sets of this specific font of 18 point, we have no more of it, neither set will include any uppercase letters or numbers. The block of type measures approximately 1-3/4 x 5” and is best shipped in a small flat rate box as just this small set weighs over 2.2 lbs. See photos for how we wrap these for shipment, each set is tied with string and then taped, and finally sandwiched between thick cardboard with more tape, then brown paper, a Ziplock bag and then bubble wrap. The top will be marked for easier opening. OPEN WITH CAUTION or you will have a pile of type on your floor. SET SPECIFIC NOTE: There is a photo of an example of each letter that I hand stamped as I created the set – sorry some are fuzzy. There are NO uppercase letters in this set, NO numbers, and only eight different symbols. There is what appears to what may be some corrosion on quite a few of these letters. The drawer they came from does not show water damage, but they were stored 50+ years in a environment that was not climate controlled. There are photos in the listing to show you closer example of this, cleaning/restoring will be the responsibility of the buyer. Please see photos for type condition, these were all used previously so there may be flaws, ink or other imperfections. We may add a random number of spacers to make this set as square as possible. Please be aware that working with this many very tiny letters we can make mistakes, there may be a letter off here or there, but we are doing our best! FLASH BOLD, No. 373 was released in 1939 by Lanston Monotype Machine Company in a variety of fonts from 14 to 72. There appears to be a bit of debate about WHO designed this font, but what we have researched and the common belief we find is that Flash Bold was designed in 1939 by Edwin W. Shaar. All of the type in this listing comes from the printing press that was originally located at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California. We are unsure how many decades the high school had this press or the type, but we believe it dates back to the early 1900s. Our father purchased the press, the cabinets, the drawers, and the type in the 1970s and it has been sitting in storage for over 50 years. We are slowly separating out sets of type for sale.
