Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here we have a very finely molded, and large, King Charles Spaniel. The potter captured the realism of the dog with the detail in its eyes, nose, and mouth, and with the texture in its fur. Spaniel pottery was popular in England during the 1800s, this is a fine large example, minimally decorated with Rockingham spatter glaze, this is one of the finest Spaniels you’ll find. This was molded in 2 halves, a front and back, with an applied and recessed base. These were pressed together while the clay was still wet and pliable, then the seams were smoothed by the potter prior to firing. Seated, the Spaniel is large measuring 9 ½” in height by 7” in width at the base. The underside has an applied recessed base with a vent hole to prevent heat from cracking the dog in firing. The Spaniel is in near mint condition with only 3 flat glaze chips on the dog’s body and base. This Spaniel is heavy and may have been used as a door stop. This would be a prized possession for any collector.
