Description: These chests were mostly used for job boxes for plumbers and pipefitters. It's the largest one they made and weighs about 200 lbs.. It's almost 100% original. It's a very heavy 1/8" steal box with 6 heavy duty handles and oak runners or bumpers all around it including the bottom. The tag shows a patent date from 1897 but that may or may not be when it was made but it very well could be. I've owned it for over 40 years, I got it out of an old building I was working in down on the Boston waterfront that was over 200 years old and being demolished. The steel box is about 48x24x24 and it's a few inches larger all around when you include the wood rails. I know I've seen one sell half this size for $700 a couple years ago that was partially restored but haven't seen many since. It obviously needs to be cleaned up and repainted or stained but it structurally sound and will last another hundred years for sure! That's about all I know about it, THX for lookin, Good Luck ! MAKE AN OFFER !!! I'D LIKE IT GONE BEFORE XMAS!
