USMC 5th Tank Bn VIETNAM subdued OD round PATCH 5th Tanks Battalion M-48 Marines

Description: Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! This is a FINE example of a Vietnam commemorative patch for 5th Tank Battalion! These can't be found just anywhere! Not, of course, allowed on the uniform, but worn on all manner of off-duty civilian caps and clothing as novelty items. Fifth Tank Battalion was an organic part of the 5th Marine Division. Activated during WWII, 5th Battalion tankers fought with honor in the battle of Iwo Jima! At the end of the war 5th Tank Bn was deactivated, along with the rest of 5th MarDiv. But as the Vietnam War heated up, 5th Marine Division was reactivated! Fifth Tank Battalion “stood up” at Camp Pendleton on January 1, 1966, and it wasn’t long before units of the battalion were on their way to Vietnam. “A” Company deployed with the 26th Marines in ‘68, and “B” Company deployed with the 27th in ’68. But at the end of 1969 they were again deactivated, and by 1970, the 5th Tanks had disbanded at Camp Pendleton. This patch is a FINE commemorative for 5th Marine tankers of Vietnam! The tank depicted is, of course, the Patton-series M-48, superimposed over a map of North and South Vietnam.
