Description: On November 1, 1983, USAir inaugurated BAC 1-11 service to Byrd International Airport in Richmond with nonstop round-trip service from Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. This was USAir’s first service at Dulles International Airport although it had served Washington National Airport for many years. This cover was carried on the inaugural USAir flight from Richmond, Virginia to Washington, DC (where it was backstamped) and is listed in The American Air Mail Catalogue as AL-D63N. On February 14, 2013, US Airways Group and AMR Corporation announced that the two companies would merge to form the largest airline in the world. The combined airline carries the American Airlines name.
