The entire show ran just under 2 hours (including national commercials). The show featured older interviews with Stevie Ray Vaughan and interviews with several other artists, including his brother, Jimmie. SRV died in a helicopter crash on on August 27th, 1990. The discs were customized for this release. “Crossfire” was a (then) previously unreleased version. I believe this was broadcast Labor Day weekend (these Up Close Extras or Specials usually fell on a holiday weekend). The Letter to the Program Directors was dated August 15, 1991, and these shows are usually two weeks in advance of its airplay. Stevie Ray Vaughan was featured three times on Up Close. The other appearances were in 1992 and 1996. The discs were tested and work. Some of the earliest CDs in this series succumbed to the dreaded CD-Rot, where the CD won't play or plays with heavy static. Anyway, here’s your chance to get a great collectible, rare item! This was the second of two Up Close extras for 1991. The other was an Up Close Extra for the Grateful Dead and their Deadicated tribute album. That show aired over the Fourth of July weekend that year. Dan-Neer hosted both of these shows. BACKGROUND INFO Up Close started around 1987 and ran until early 2004. Up Close was one of the better radio shows with each show being unique. The shows usually coincided with the release of a new album by the featured artist. Radio shows are typically in a rockumentary-style and many include music and rare interviews between the music. Interview segments were short (raw interviews consume about 8 to 10 minutes per hour) and discussed the times, specific tracks, specific albums, and other historical items of interest. The CD(s) were professionally produced and distributed to radio stations. The shows usually have their original national commercials, typically at the end of each segment. Limited copies were made (probably well under 500), so they may increase in value with time. Most were either given away, destroyed or returned to the distributor after the show aired. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.CONDITIONCD (Visually Graded): VG to VG+ condition. CD 1 is in VG+ condition and CD2 is in VG condition. Both discs have some minor light marks and minor surface scratches, but nothing serious and not too numerous. There are less marks on CD 1. Cue Sheets: A copy of the cue sheets are included (3 pages in total). They are folded. Most cue sheets were folded in half, thirds or into quarters when they were shipped out. Sometimes cue sheets have writing and check marks from the DJ and/or program directors. As a Bonus, I will include Stevie Ray Vaughan Up Close cues for 1996 (not the greatest copy) for those who collect. I will also include the cues for one of the other MediaAmerica radio specials from 1991 - A Tribute to Robert Johnson. A lot of Up Close shows are sold these days without cues. I will not include copies of other shows, so please refrain from asking.Note: The silver-back discs are NOT homemade copies, but genuine discs professionally made and once used by a radio station.
