Uncle Scrooge #19 (423) Retailer Incentive Limited Edition

Description: Retailer Incentive Copy. Low Print run. These are difficult to find with very few opportunities to acquire these for your collection. These are seldom offered for sale. Possibly because so few were printed or because they made their way into the collections of those that seldom sell. See my other listings for these rare books. I'm listing a complete set of Retailer Incentive covers - many not see often. High-grade copy - I combine shipping The history of Uncle Scrooge comics is fascinating - with several "eras" that affect availability and collectability. DELL - the first comics were published by DELL with very high print runs, but extraordinary demand as the early issues were created by the legendary Carl Barks. While many were printed, the early issues are sought after and many did not survive or only survived in lower grade. Gold Key/Whitman - the publishing switched to this publisher just before the series entered issue 100 and continued to the early 200's. Many of these issues can be difficult to find in better grades First era of Scarcity - the issues around 160-209 are very hard to find. Print runs and distribution issues mean that many of these books are amongst the most difficult to acquire. Issue 179 being a perfect example (although 177-185 are also extremely hard to find) Some only being available in pre-packs and not on newsstands. Of those that did survive both scarcity and distribution issues - higher grades are rare. New Era - Gladstone Publishing. A new era was launched with Gladstone Publishing and issue 210. This was met with great enthusiasm and the earliest Gladstone issues are a bit easier to find... except. This also marked and era where European artists were printed in North America for the first time. As well and the first issue by the now famous Don Rosa! Later Gladstone, Disney, Marvel. Demand was lower as the issues progressed and distribution and publication was split. At one point, Disney took over and used Marvel to distribute the comics, Gladstone returned, and many odd and chaotic things happened. This makes this era's later issues extremely hard to find - with some absolutely rare issues as print runs were in the low thousands - (in the 50's they were in the millions). Prestige formats and higher cover prices made some of these issues extremely scarce then and now. GemstoneEnthusiasm returned after Gladstone folded and a hiatus in publishing occurred. The format was prestige and cover prices kept demand and availability low - but not quite as low as the last years of Gladstone. Later GemstoneUnfortunately, demand (and print runs) continued to decline. Making mid-late run Gemstones scarce - especially issues featuring Don Rosa Boom, Boom KidsThe series continued under the Boom and, later Boom Kids publisher. ALL of these books are difficult to find. To make it even more challenging - the publisher tried to increase sales through the use of multiple covers: normally an A/B/Limited cover. With even printing of A/B and the Limited being extremely rare and difficult to obtain. IDWWhat? another publisher? Yes. IDW focused on bringing more European creators to North American markets - as well as continuing the multi-cover strategy. Now, the covers are "regular", "SUBscription", and RI (Retailer Incentive). Once again, some of these are extremely scarce to locate. What will the future hold? Well - Disney has bought Marvel and we have now seen the Disney characters appearing in Marvel comics - including new Uncle Scrooge books! This could potentially increase demand, but you never know...
