UV bulbs generate a lot of visible light in addition to the nominal frequency. The visible light washes out the fluorescent response when rockhounding, so having the filter in place makes it much easier to spot specimens. The ZWB2 filter works well with both bulbs, but it does reduce (slightly) the number of lumens. Hence the clear lens if you need it. The second photo shows the difference in lenses, with a clear lens on the left and the bandpass filter on the right. The filter definitely makes the fluorescence pop! I used this kit to easily find Lake Superior Yooperlites. The 502B flashlight body is very beefy and rugged. There is a retaining ring which holds the lens in place. To change the lens, you will need a small standard screwdriver to loosen the ring. Place the business end of the screwdriver into one of the slots on the ring and CAREFULLY rotate the ring counter-clockwise to unscrew the ring.
