Description: As the title states, up for auction is an ultra rare 1-PW set of MacGregor Jack Nicklaus JNP forged "short blade" irons in all original condition. This hardly-hit, 10 club set includes: original Golf Pride green Victory model grips, original True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shafts with faces and grooves in great shape. No chrome loss, cracking or peeling anywhere. Also, there are no serial numbers stamped into these ferrules. 5 iron measures 38". Not sure of flex (no labels), but the 5 iron shaft's first step is 8.75" from the top of the hosel. What makes this set of JNPs so ultra rare? This set of JNPs features the "short blade" profile that Mr. Nicklaus preferred which means these heads are shorter from heel to toe than the longer, standard, retail JNP heads and do not have the 2 or 3 hosel rings stamped into them below the ferrules. It's my understanding that these heads became the basis for the VIP CB92 irons once Mr. Nicklaus parted ways with MacGregor to start his own equipment company - Nicklaus Golf. There are several great articles online where you can learn more about the history of the MacGregor JNP "short blades" by their designer Clay Long. I was told by Mr. Long via email that, "We (MacGregor) didn’t make many JNPs like that as I recall. Maybe just enough for Jack’s use". I have seen one set like this come to market in the past 8 years as they are extremely rare.
