This set features colour pictures of literary figures from the works of William Shakespeare such as Malvolio from Twelfth Night, Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing and Bottom from A Midsummer Night's Dream with a small text about the character at the bottom. The backs contain an advert for a book The Complete Works of William Shakespeare which was available at 3/3 plus price portions cut from tea packets to the value of 1½lbs. These are size 102 x 36mm. This set perfectly illustrates the huge range of subjects covered by our greatest literary figure. There are tragedies such as Othello, Romeo & Juliet and Hamlet, historical action such as McBeth, Anthony & Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, King Henry V, comedy such as As You Like It, The Merry Wives of Windsor and gripping tales such as The Tempest and the Merchant of Venice. The appeal of his works never seems to diminish, and many have been modernized and turned into films such as 10 Things I Like About You (based on The Taming of the Shrew) or West Side Story (which up-dates the Romeo & Juliet story to 1950s America).
