Description: Up for sale is an Austro-Hungarian M17 helmet, this helmet still retains it's original golden-brown (aka isonzo-braun) paint. These helmets are similar to the German M16 helmet with the key difference being these have the chinstrap rivet being placed higher on the skirt, from my research I've found that they are also much less common than the German counterparts. Please note the small impact on the outside of the helmet, as well as the "L" stamped on the top of the helmet (I believe this stands for "Lot", as they were usually encountered with a number proceeding. I.e. the lot number). The helmet was made by A . Western Cilli which used the code “AW”, and is a size 64. Cilli was the name of the city in the Austro-Hungarian empire where the factory was located, Cilli is now part of Slovenia and the name has changed to Celje. Another interesting thing about this helmet is that the original 3 piece liner was replaced at some point with a german WW2-style leather 8 tongue liner, so perhaps this helmet saw additional service well up through WW2? Please ask ANY and ALL questions prior to purchasing, all sales final. US sales only.
