Description: Tiberius, Ae semis, which is 1/2 of a Ae As, 14 AD-37 AD, Sear(1988 ed.) 564, 18-19 mm dia., 3.9 gms. The obverse shows Tiberius, laureate head to the right. The obverse legend shows "TI. CAESAR AVGVST F. IMPERATI. VII". The reverse shows the altar at Lugdunum, decorated with corona civica between laurels, and stylized figures. The altar is flanked by columns topped with statues of Victory, facing each other. The reverse legend shows "ROM ET AVG". Both sides are medium to dark brown in color. On the reverse, there are a few small spots of hard verdigris. In the center, between the columns, it appears the piece was struck on a planchet with some irregular surface, or some lamination that later came off. It doesn't detract very much from the appearance of the piece, and isn't the result of later damage. It is lower than the other surface right around it. This is a genuine, original coin, not a copy, replica or reproduction. Ex. Steve Damron Ancient Coins, Roswell, GA., Atlanta, GA Coin Show, 22 Jan 1995.
