The Works of Daniel Webster Vol I-VI 1851 First Edition

Description: This superb first edition set of Daniel Webster's works is a fantastic edition to the collection of any history buff, teacher or collector. All six original volumes are included and from the same set. They are in good to very good condition with the primary defects being with the decorations on the spines. On each volume, a bookplate is affixed with the name of a past owner, as well as a written name on the first endpaper. The pages are free of marks. Each book's binding is almost tight in a sense. I would not say they are unread, but it has been a very long time since they were opened and so the pages are not easily turned. Along the spines there significant chipping on all six volumes as well as a couple that have fraying pieces that are coming off. One of the books has a small piece of newspaper stuck to it. These books are incredibly scarce. There are known sets from the same year called "subscriber's editions" which are signed by Webster, and indicated as such. It is unclear whether this copy was printed before or after the subscriber's editions, however this one is not signed. I have not been able to uncover definitive evidence to suggest whether this printing is the first, however I do believe it is a possibility. The books themselves are beautiful, and in great shape aside from the issues noted above. Each volume is marbled around the edges, and the spines bear an iconic look. There are multiple palates in each volume which showcase beautiful drawings. There is minimal foxing, and most of the pages are completely clear.
