Description: The Work Ethic of the Shopping Cart Shaman by Eugene Berson Gene Berson has been writing these stream-of-thought poems for years, and he has a huge well of thoughts to draw from. FORMAT Paperback CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description Gene Berson has been writing these stream-of-thought poems for years, and he has a huge well of thoughts to draw from. It feels like he has read and considered pretty much everything, and this book is full of surprising connections, minute observations, and that rare thing: a fresh perspective. His encounters with the fleeting beauty of the natural world are sometimes humorous, always poignant, as man and creature attempt to communicate. His powers of observation - of people below his rooftop view living out their daily lives in the City, an older man who picks him up hitchhiking, some Korean women who let him sit with them on a mountainside beside their fire, a woman singing in another room, squirrels attempting to speak, Adirondack chairs at the ends of piers - all are delivered to us with near photographic clarity of image and a restrained overflow of heart. Author Biography Long active in the San Francisco Bay Area poetry scene, Gene Berson holds an MA in English literature from San Francisco State University. He has taught poetry workshops under the auspices of SFSUs Pegasus Program (which eventually became California Poets in the Schools) in everything from one-room Wyoming schoolhouses to reform schools, Indian reservations, and as a high school teacher in Oakland. Gene is the author of raveling travel (Open Book Press, 2019). His poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Bastard Angel, and others. He worked in the trade show industry (Sign Display Union, Local 510) and was a translator in Korea (7th Infantry Division). Gene grew up in the Bay Area and currently lives in the foothills of Northern California with his wife Ruby. Review "Gene Bersons poems lean into gladness -they are vivid narratives of beauty and death, treachery and tenderness, play and loss." - Anne Valley-Fox"I dont know of a keener observer of the world who at the same time has a genius for revealing hidden worlds, glimpses, hints, music, images, that mysteriously capture what we long for and require of great poetry." - Steve Schutzman Details ISBN0917658507 Author Eugene Berson Pages 116 Publisher Hip Pocket Press Year 2024 ISBN-13 9780917658501 Format Paperback Publication Date 2024-06-14 Imprint Hip Pocket Press Audience General We've got this At The Nile, if you're looking for it, we've got it.
