Description: The Theory and Practice of Goldsmiths was originally written and published in Germany and translated to English by Charles Lewton-Brain and Roy Ysla. It is a comprehensive study and reference manual. It includes working with a variety of metals and includes techniques involved with repair, plating, settings and findings, joining, rolling, melting, casting, just to name a few, and the use of various machine and hand tools. "The Brepohl" has become a standard text for the training of goldsmiths and a recognized general reference book for professional workshop practice. Thirteen editions have appeared in German, four in Russian and in each case the text was reworked and brought up to date. The preparations for the book began in 1987. If you are in the trade, you will refer to this book often and may need few others! Charles Lewton-Brain has managed to convey the sense of the difficult text.
