Description: Small pocket edition of Milton, with board covers and gilt page edges. Measures 5x3x1. Curious architectural motif on front and back covers. Includes Paradise, Sonnets and Psalms. Very tiny type. There are 2 title pages - the original one is dated 1833. The later one is in front of the original, dated 1834 and with an illustration of Eve and the serpent. Condition: There is cover wear, plus damage to the top and bottom spine. I believe the front cover has been glued to the spine, because it doesn't open freely, as the back does. There is a name and address in pencil on an FEP. No other writing, no underlines, no page tears, and not exlib. No stains and (important:) no foxing. Rarity: Bookfinder lists 4 copies of this version, but all with an 1830 date, and all currently located in Britain. For the provenance of my copy, see the bottom paragraph. Provenance: this book is item #RH27, part of a book trove found in 2009. Reader's Heaven was a used bookstore that closed in Independence Missouri. I purchased the rights to sort through and purchase any of the remaining stock of the estimated 22,000 books. In the attic, back rooms and closets, boxes of books were found that had not been opened in decades. None of this stock had ever been offered on Ebay or elsewhere in the online marketplace.
