The 1989-90 LA Lakers went 63-19, defeating the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs but losing in the second round to the Phoenix Suns, EARVIN "MAGIC" JOHNSON, three times the NBA's Most Valuable Player, led the Lakers to five Championships between 1980 and 1987. He retired in 1991 with the surprise announcement that he had contracted the HIV virus, but came back to play for the 1992 US Olympic "dream team" gold medalists. Johnson has been joined in basketball's Hall of Fame by 7-time All-Star JAMES WORTHY. Johnson and Worthy both played their entire careers with the Lakers.
