Description: The book itself in in excellent condition, with only barley-there yellowing on the edges of the pages.The slipcase, however, has darkened slightly with age, and has a few scuff marks on the bottom and on the spine board. Overall, it is very usable, and a wonderful addition to any collection. There are also beautiful, colorful, illustrations throughout the book, as well as two different (meticulously detailed) maps on the inside of the front and rear of the hardcover. While doing research on this specific edition, I found it incredibly difficult to find this exact book edition, proving this being a very rare find. The Histories of Herodotus was first thought to be created in 425 B.C; first printed in a latin translation in 1474; the Greek text first printed in 1502; first translated into English in 1709; this edition was printed and translated in 1959.
