In this alternative history novel, the Confederate States Of America (CSA) had outmaneuvered the United States Of America (USA) in 1862, forcing the USA to surrender during the First American Civil War; and again, in 1881, after the USA had declared war on the CSA, after the CSA had purchased the two northwestern states of Mexico from its cash-strapped government. Now, nearly 35 years later, it is 1914, and war has broken out in Europe. President WOODROW WILSON of the CSA has aligned the Confederates with Great Britain & France (who had aided the CSA during both earlier wars against the USA), as well as Russia & Japan; while USA President THEODORE ROOSEVELT joins the German Empire and its allies. This first volume (of 3) is largely episodic, jumping from one area of combat to another, and focusing upon the lives of common, everyday individuals, rather than more well-known celebrities. While USA forces invade Canada, the armies of the CSA capture Washington, DC, forcing President Roosevelt & other politicians to re-locate the USA capitol to Philadelphia. CSA submarine warfare breaks out along the northern USA seacoast, while the navy of the USA invades and captures the Sandwich Islands (aka Hawai'i) from the British. The rebellion of the Mormons in Utah becomes even more bloody, as does the trench fighting along the Virginia & West Virginia Border. A senile USA General GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER plans suicidal warfare against CSA forces, while the British Navy lays siege to USA cities along the Great Lakes. Both nations have now instituted a military draft; and civilian jobs in both USA and CSA are now being filled by a population of Black Americans, who are secretly beginning to flex their own muscles -- both physically and mentally -- as Marxist revolution is becoming to disturb plantation life in the CSA, as well as in the industrial cities of the USA. And the war drags on. . ..
