Description: Periodically we experience problems with our scanner. Today is one of those days. Depending upon which view you choose, the first scan will show horizontal lines and/or cross hatching marks. Rest assured, these are not on the card itself. Usually scanning problems are confined to color pictures but today it's "advanced" to black and white! (You will note that the second scan (reverse side of the card) exhibits none of these problems.)Offered for your consideration is...Complete, never opened factory-sealed setThe CONLON COLLECTION: 1915-1935 from The Sporting News100 Historic baseball portraits from the camera of Charles Martin Conlon*First set of the modern Conlon Collection cards in large format (4x5 inch) size From the early days of the dawning of the 20th century, the photographic artistry of Charles Conlon was featured in baseball guides, daily newspapers, monthly magazines and, of course, The Sporting News - then America's Base Ball paper of record.Conlon's work also appeared on baseball cards. After a 60-year absence from that medium, in 1981 The Sporting News created a 100-card set from original Conlon glass negatives. Issued in classic sepia, this is one of those cards.Cards are numbered 1 through 100 and are in a larger format (4X5 inch) size. Backs are blank.*The Sporting News began with this 100 card set. Later Conlon Collection cards were published by Marketcom, World Wide Sports and The Sporting News, Coca-Cola/Hardees, and, finally, Megacards, Inc. In all, nearly 3,000 different cards were issued from 1981 to 1995.Offered here is a complete factory-sealed 100 card setCondition: Near Mint/Mint - factory-sealedThis complete set consists of the following (HALL OF FAME members in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS):#1 TY COBB ~ #2 HUGHIE JENNINGS ~ #3 MILLER HUGGINS ~ #4 BABE RUTH ~ #5 LOU GEHRIG ~ #6 JOHN McGRAW ~ #7 BILL TERRY ~ #8 Stan Baumgartner ~ #9 CHRISTY MATHEWSON ~ #10 GROVER CLEVELAND ALEXANDER ~ #11 TONY LAZZERI ~ #12 FRANK CHANCE & JOE TINKER ~ #13 JOHNNY EVERS ~ #14 TRIS SPEAKER ~ #15 HARRY HOOPER ~ #16 Duffy Lewis ~ #17 Smoky Joe Wood ~ #18 HUGH DUFFY ~ #19 ROGERS HORNSBY ~ #20 EARL AVERILL ~ #21 DIZZY DEAN ~ #22 Daffy Dean ~ #23 FRANKIE FRISCH ~ #24 Pepper Martin ~ #25 Blondie Ryan ~ #26 Hank Gowdy ~ #27 Fred Merkle ~ #28 ERNIE LOMBARDI ~ #29 Greasy Neale ~ #30 Morris "Red" Badgro ~ #31 Jim Thorpe ~ #32 Roy Johnson ~ #33 Bob Johnson ~ #34 Mule Solters ~ #35 Specs Toporcer ~ #36 Jackie Hayes ~ #37 WALTER JOHNSON ~ #38 LEFTY GROVE ~ #39 EDDIE COLLINS ~ #40 Buck Weaver ~ #41 Cozy Dolan ~ #42 Emil Meusel ~ #43 Bob Meusel ~ #44 LEFTY GOMEZ ~ #45 RUBE MARQUARD ~ #46 Jeff Tesreau ~ #47 Joe Heving ~ #48 John Heving ~ #49 RICK FERRELL ~ #50 Wes Ferrell ~ #51 Bill Wambsganss ~ #52 Ben Chapman ~ #53 JOE SEWELL ~ #54 Luke Sewell ~ #55 Odell Hale ~ #56 Sammy Hale ~ #57 Earle Mack ~ #58 CONNIE MACK ~ #59 Rube Walberg ~ #60 Mule Haas ~ #61 PAUL WANER (actually pictures LLOYD WANER) ~ #62 LLOYD WANER (actually pictures PAUL WANER) ~ #63 PIE TRAYNOER ~ #64 HONUS WAGNER ~ #65 JOE CRONIN ~ #66 Joe Harris ~ #67 Dave Harris ~ #68 BUCKY HARRIS ~ #69 Alex Gaston ~ #70 Milt Gaston ~ #71 CASEY STENGEL ~ #72 AMOS RUSIE ~ #73 MICKEY WELCH ~ #74 ROGER BRESNAHAN ~ #75 JESSE BURKETT ~ #76 HARRY HEILMANN ~ #77 HEINIE MANUSH ~ #78 CHARLIE GEHRINGER ~ #79 HANK GREENBERG ~ #80 JIMMIE FOXX ~ #81 AL SIMMONS ~ #82 EDDIE PLANK ~ #83 GEORGE SISLER ~ #84 JOE MEDWICK ~ #85 MEL OTT ~ #86 HACK WILSON ~ #87 Jimmy Wilson ~ #88 CHUCK KLEIN ~ #89 GABBY HARTNETT ~ #90 Heinie Groh ~ #91 Ping Bodie ~ #92 TED LYONS ~ #93 Jack Picus Quinn ~ #94 Oscar Roettger ~ #95 Wally Roettger ~ #96 Bubbles Hargrave ~ #97 Pinky Hargrave ~ #98 WAHOO SAM CRAWFORD ~ #99 Gee Walker ~ #100 Homer SummaThe first two scans picture this complete factory-sealed set while the other scans picture cards from an opened set. The set offered here is factory-sealed. The opened set may be offered elsewhere among our listings. We believe there is a story behind the relationship of each of these cards to the succeeding (and preceding) number. If any collector is aware of this (we think it was published about the time the set was released), we'd really like to get a copy of the article!Postscript: Our last scan has nothing to do with this listing. It is a picture of all-time baseball great Ted Williams with The Baseball Hobbyist's Steve Mitchell at a 1983 Connecticut sports collectors gathering - Ted's very first-ever collector event. On the second day of the show "The Splendid Splinter" visited with collectors and dealers and graciously posed for this photo. (Photo was taken by fellow collector-dealer Bob Thing, longtime Maine hobbyist)._______________________Important: Shipping Information Our goal has always been to keep shipping costs low.
