Description: This is a wonderful 4-volume set of The Comedies of William Shakespeare published by Harper and Brothers in 1899. The books of this limited edition (541/750) set features a leather binding with marbled boards that have leather corners. The spine’s cover has raised bars and gold gilding (see photos). There is also gold gilding on the upper edge of the pages. The other 2 edges are rough cut. The books have many illustrations/engravings by Edwin Abbey that add a touch of elegance to the text. Each book is 10.25 x 7.5 x 1.75 inches. The books are in great shape, especially given their age. The bindings remain tight. Two of the books have a slight or partial crack at the front endpaper (see photos). I found uncut pages in at least 2 of the book (bold 3 & 4). Pages are clean. I did not see any tears, creases, or any foxing! There are a few small chips on the leather (see photos). This set has truly been well cared for over the past 125 years. This limited-edition set is a must-have for any Shakespeare fan and is sure to be a cherished item for years to come.
