He was popular on national radio broadcasts in the 1920s and 1930s. His name is sometimes given as Ted Fiorito or Ted Fio Rito. He moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1921 to join Dan Russo's band, and the following year he was the co-leader of Russo and Fio Rito's Oriole Orchestra. In 1928, Dan Russo left the band, and Ted Fio Rito took over as sole leader. Throughout the ensuing year, the band performed in numerous locations, in the midwest, including St. Louis, Kansas City and Cincinnati. In 1930, Ted Fio Rito and His Orchestra did a number of recording sessions, with Victor. In 1932, Fio Rito took his band to San Francisco, where they played an engagement at the St. Francis Hotel and began recording for Brunswick. Also in 1932, Fio Rito made changes to the personnel, he introduced the "Debutantes" vocal trio and brought in guitarist, Muzzy Marcellino and, bassist, Candy Candido, both of whom would become equally known for their vocals. He was very popular into the 1950's. Towards the end of the 1950s, Fio Rito moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he opened his own night club. The Black Sheep Club, as it was called, remained in business until 1962, when Fio Rito organized a new band. This new group, a combo of five to six members, continued to play at venues, in California and Nevada, until the year of Fio Rito's death in 1971 from a heart attack. All selections were digitally restored by Vintage Recordings. __________________________________________ Ted Fio Rito and His Orchestra (1930’s Dance Jazz Band) [Recorded 1934] Encore 4 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Several Items will have a symbol next to a song.
