TECO POTTERY, 4 BUTTRESSED HANDLED GOURD VASE, WONDERFUL CONDITION, GREAT GLAZE~

Description: For auction is a wonderful piece of art pottery made by the Terra Cotta Tile Company (TECO) of Terra Cotta, Illinois which was near Chicago. I have a beautiful matte green Buttressed Handled Gourd vase. The vase is a good size as it measures 6 11/16" tall and is 6" in diameter. The top opening is 2 9/16" in diameter and the bottom is 4 1/4"in diameter. The vase displays a matte green glaze that Teco Pottery was so well known for. Their matte green glaze is a medium green with char-coaling undertones and this glaze is as unique as the Pottery Company itself. The vase has that organic shape of a gourd as you would see in nature especially in your garden in the fall. It is further accented with 4 Buttress Handles place evenly around the vase. These handles come up from the bottom and rise to just under the top lip. This vase was designed by the founder "W.D. Gates". The vase has a very pleasing form and is considered to be one of the harder to come by shapes collected by Teco Pottery collectors. The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The piece is signed on the bottom twice with Teco's infamous "T" with the "eco" underneath the right side of the T. One of these marks is somewhat obscured by the glaze. The form also has the indented ring where this mark lies within. This is the sign of an original Teco as the fakes do not have this same bottom. The exterior bottom underside edge is also glazed. Teco exemplifies pottery of the "Prairie School" Arts and Crafts movement of which Frank Lloyd Wright made so popular. In 1886 the Gates Pottery was established as a subsidiary with William D. Gates as its president. Gates used the facilities to experiment with clay and glazes in an effort to design a line of art pottery which led to the introduction of Teco Pottery (TErra COtta) in 1902. This is a quality piece of art pottery made by one of the Arts and Crafts movement most important potters. Teco competed heavily against Grueby and Fulper for this once flourishing market. This is a rather hard to find shape as the collectors don't let these go to often. This piece of Teco is known as shape #287 in the Teco catalog pages. This vase was designed my W.B. Mundie and is considered very early as it was made, circa 1902-1910. This size sold for $5 in 1902-1905. PLEASE READ BELOWI want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July 2020. I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the merchandise unless it is paid for. They are also now charging all sellers a commission of 12.35% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 12.35%. This is an increase of 9.45% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 12.35% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges. If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
