Description: Technics Sa 5600x Vintage Quad Receiver from 1974. Bought from original owner to pair with a vintage turntable. Beautiful condition and he said it was fully functional. It's not fully functional. He told me the only time it was ever opened up or serviced was when someone replaced the stereo indicator light. That appears true. All lights and Knobs work great. It's a quad receiver which can also be used in stereo mode only with more power. That was my intention. But when in 2 channel mode, the sound in the right channel slowly fades to static. The longer the unit is off, the longer it takes to fade out. Same thing happens through headphone jack. Through research, this sounds like a failing capacitor on the preamp board. Before the sound cuts out, it is full and very clear and good sounding. You CAN get lasting and even stereo sound utilizing the rear quad channels, but at lesser wattage. All inputs and controls work beautifully, except for the mute switch, it dosnt seem to do anything. I put brand new speaker protection fuses in and deoxed all controls, but to no avail. I could replace a bad capacitor but figuring out which one is beyond my abilities. Have digital copies of owners manual and service manual I could share if requested. Great unit for someone with the abilities to repair or is okay with using the quad channels for stereo sound. Any questions, please ask. Thanks
